Army Day: Nigerian Army holds free medical care in Zamfara Community
The 1 Brigade Headquarters of the Nigerian Army in Gusau, Zamfara State, has carried out a free medical outreach in Rawayya community, Bungudu Local Government Area, as part of events marking the 2025 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL).
Brigadier General Timothy Opurum, who led the team, explained that the initiative was aimed at strengthening the relationship between the military and civilians while also demonstrating the Army’s concern for the well-being of communities. The outreach took place at Government Day Secondary School, Rawayya.
Residents, including women, children, and the elderly, benefited from free medical consultations, drugs, blood pressure checks, eye screenings, counselling, and other essential health services.
“We are not only focused on security operations; we also engage in humanitarian efforts like this to show our people that we care,” Brig Gen Opurum stated.
He noted that the initiative was in line with the Nigerian Army’s civil-military cooperation strategy and in the spirit of NADCEL 2025, which celebrates 162 years since the Army’s establishment.
The outreach also included the distribution of free exercise books and educational materials to students of the host school.
The District Head of Rawayya, Alhaji Abubakar Rashi, praised the Army’s gesture, describing it as a timely intervention and the first of its kind in the community.

He expressed gratitude on behalf of the residents and offered prayers for the Army’s continued success in safeguarding the country.
