Alleged Coup Plot: Military to arraign 16 Officers after investigation
The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) has concluded investigations into the alleged acts of indiscipline involving 16 military officers, some of whom were accused of plotting to overthrow the government.
The Defence Headquarters disclosed this in an update issued on the disciplinary cases, recalling that the officers were arrested in October 2025 for alleged breaches of service regulations.
According to the military authorities, the investigation has been completed in line with established procedures, and the report has since been forwarded to the appropriate superior authorities in accordance with extant regulations.
“The comprehensive investigation process carefully examined all circumstances surrounding the conduct of the affected personnel,” the statement said.
Findings from the probe reportedly identified some of the officers as having questions to answer over allegations bordering on actions “inconsistent with the ethics, values and professional standards” expected of members of the Armed Forces.
The AFN said officers found culpable would be formally arraigned before appropriate military judicial panels to face trial under the Armed Forces Act and other relevant service regulations.
The military authorities stressed that the measures being taken are strictly disciplinary and part of internal institutional processes aimed at maintaining order, discipline and operational effectiveness within the armed forces.
Reaffirming its loyalty to constitutional authority, the Armed Forces said it remains committed to upholding professionalism, accountability and due process within its ranks.
