Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has declared that his expected bid for the presidency in 2027 will be his last attempt to lead Nigeria.

Atiku, who has contested for the nation’s top office on multiple occasions since 1992, made the statement during an exclusive interview on ARISE TV.

Responding to a question on whether his age—he would be turning 80 by 2027—would influence his decision, Atiku said the upcoming election would likely mark the end of his presidential ambitions.

“Certainly yes, because the stakes are higher and I believe that will be my last outing,” he said.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain reiterated his commitment to Nigeria’s development but acknowledged that time and political realities would shape his decision to exit the presidential race after 2027.

He also used the opportunity to call for stronger unity within the opposition, urging political actors to put aside personal interests and work toward building a coalition capable of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Atiku expressed concern over Nigeria’s economic difficulties, insecurity, and governance challenges, insisting that experienced leadership is needed to address the country’s problems.

According to him, Nigeria requires bold reforms and inclusive policies to unlock its full potential.

Atiku, who served as Vice President from 1999 to 2007, remains one of the most prominent figures in Nigeria’s democratic history, having participated in multiple presidential elections over the past three decades.
