Atiku, Amaechi submit ADC nomination forms, promise national renewal ahead of 2027 elections

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, have officially submitted their presidential nomination forms at the national secretariat of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abuja ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The development underscores growing political realignments within the ADC as the party continues to attract high-profile figures positioning themselves for the next presidential race.

In a post on his X handle, Atiku described his candidacy as part of a broader movement aimed at restoring national prosperity and rebuilding Nigeria’s economy.

“The march to restore prosperity and better days to our beloved nation took a firm and decisive step forward today at the national secretariat of our great party, the African Democratic Congress,” he wrote.

He said the movement goes beyond politics, adding that it represents a collective resolve to rescue Nigeria from hardship.

“This is more than a political journey; it is a national movement rooted in hope, renewal, and the collective resolve to save Nigeria from despair,” Atiku stated.

The former Vice President also called on Nigerians across all divides to support the initiative, insisting that national unity is key to rebuilding the country.

On his part, Rotimi Amaechi pledged to turn Nigeria around within four years if elected president, stressing that competence, experience, and performance—not ethnicity or sentiment—should determine leadership in 2027.

Speaking after submitting his forms, Amaechi said Nigerians must critically assess candidates based on their records in public office.

“Let this be a referendum. If you have performed, whoever has outperformed the other, vote for the person,” he said.

Amaechi also argued that he possesses the required experience to lead the country, citing his time as Governor of Rivers State and Minister of Transportation under former President Muhammadu Buhari.

“I am the most experienced. I am young, I am the most experienced, and I believe I have the capacity,” he stated.

He further promised to deliver transformative governance within four years, urging voters to reject sentiments such as zoning or ethnic considerations.

“Nigerians should vote for merit, not ‘it is our turn.’ It is the ‘Emilokan’ mentality that brought us here,” he added.

Amaechi served as Rivers State Governor from 2007 to 2015 and later oversaw key railway projects as Minister of Transportation, including the Abuja-Kaduna and Lagos-Ibadan rail lines.

Both political heavyweights have now formally entered the ADC presidential race, setting the stage for a highly competitive and high-stakes 2027 election cycle.
