Boko Haram kills Brigade Commander in Borno base attack
The Brigade Commander of the Joint Task Force in Benesheikh, Kaga Local Government Area, O. Braimah, has been reportedly killed in a fresh attack by Boko Haram insurgents.
Sources said the attack occurred on Thursday night when the insurgents stormed the military formation in large numbers, leading to intense fighting. Several insurgents were also reportedly killed during the clash.
A social media user, Mallam Lawa Benesheikh, disclosed the development, expressing grief over the incident.
> “Innalillahi wa Inna’illaihin raji’un. Boko Haram has again, unfortunately, succeeded in eliminating the commanding officer of Benesheikh. This unfortunate incident occurred yesterday night when the insurgents stormed the military formation in numbers. May the souls of the fallen heroes rest in peace,” he wrote.
The Chairman of Kaga Local Government Area, Zanna Ajimi, confirmed the killing of the senior military officer.
“Yes, we just left the military base now, and I can confirm to you that the brigade commander is among the casualties,” Ajimi said.
The attack marks another setback in the ongoing counter-insurgency operations in Borno State, a region that has remained a stronghold of Boko Haram activities for over a decade.
