BREAKING: Major Military overhaul as Tinubu dismisses top Service Chiefs, name replacements
President Bola Tinubu has announced a major shake-up in Nigeria’s military leadership, appointing new Service Chiefs as part of efforts to strengthen the nation’s security framework.
According to a statement issued on Friday by Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, General Olufemi Oluyede has been named the new Chief of Defence Staff, succeeding General Christopher Musa.
Other appointments include Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff. The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, retains his position.
President Tinubu, who serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, expressed deep appreciation to the outgoing Service Chiefs for their patriotic service and committed leadership.
He urged the newly appointed military leaders to uphold the values of professionalism, vigilance, and unity that characterize the Nigerian Armed Forces, and to justify the confidence reposed in them.
The statement confirmed that all appointments take immediate effect.
