D’Tigress coach Rena Wakama named best basketball coach by ANOCA

The Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) has named D’Tigress head coach, Rena Wakama, as the Best Basketball Coach following her remarkable performance at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

According to an invitation letter from ANOCA President, Mr. Mustafa Ibarahim, which was communicated through the Nigeria Olympic Committee, Wakama will be honored at a special ceremony in Algeria.

The ANOCA Elective General Assembly will take place from March 15 to March 17, 2025, during which the award presentation will occur.

Wakama made history by guiding Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, to the quarterfinals of the Paris Games, securing an impressive 8th-place finish, marking Nigeria’s best-ever result in Olympic basketball.

The team achieved notable victories, defeating Australia 75-62 in the preliminary rounds and overcoming Canada 79-70 to reach the quarterfinals.
