Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), Barrister Oluwaseun Faleye, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Labour Editor and Group Business Editor of Daily Independent Newspapers, Mr. Sylvester Enoghase.

In a personal condolence message, Faleye described the late journalist as an outstanding professional whose contributions to labour reporting and workers’ welfare left an enduring mark on Nigeria’s media and labour sectors.

The NSITF boss said the management and staff of the Fund received news of Enoghase’s passing with profound shock and sadness, noting that his death represents a significant loss to journalism and the Nigerian labour movement.

According to him, Enoghase distinguished himself throughout a career that spanned more than two decades on the labour beat, where he consistently demonstrated professionalism, courage and dedication in reporting labour and industrial relations issues.

Faleye noted that the late editor played a vital role in advancing conversations around workers’ rights, workplace safety and welfare, while giving a voice to ordinary Nigerian workers through his reports and analyses.

He further described Enoghase as a steadfast ally of the labour movement whose work earned him widespread respect among labour leaders, employers, policymakers and colleagues in the media industry.

The NSITF chief also highlighted Enoghase’s contributions as a former Chairman of the Labour Writers Association of Nigeria (LAWAN), saying he helped strengthen labour journalism and encouraged constructive engagement among key stakeholders in the world of work.

Faleye observed that the late journalist remained committed to his profession until his final days, noting that he had only recently returned from Geneva, Switzerland, where he covered the 114th International Labour Conference of the International Labour Organization (ILO).

He said the assignment reflected Enoghase’s passion for labour reporting and his unwavering dedication to duty.

On behalf of the management and staff of NSITF, Faleye extended condolences to the immediate family of the deceased, the management and staff of Daily Independent Newspapers, members of the Labour Writers Association of Nigeria, the Labour Correspondents Association of Nigeria, the Nigeria Labour Congress, the Trade Union Congress and the broader labour community.

He prayed for God to grant the family, friends, colleagues and associates of the late journalist the strength to bear the loss and for the peaceful repose of his soul.

The death of Sylvester Enoghase has continued to attract tributes from across the media and labour sectors, with many describing him as one of Nigeria’s most respected labour journalists and a committed advocate for workers’ welfare.
