Federal government reaffirms commitment to Nigeria’s art sector
The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to investing in Nigeria’s thriving art sector as the 3rd International Art Fair commenced at the Art Pavilion in Abuja.
The Director-General of the NGA, Ahmed Sodangi, remarked that the government is actively creating new avenues in the art sector to empower creatives and draw investment.
The event not only displays the ingenuity of our artists but also opens doors for global exposure and economic empowerment,” he said. “Our ongoing efforts to amend the NGA Establishment Act aim to transform the agency into a revenue-generating body and catalyse growth in the sector.”

Chairman of the occasion and representative of the Society of Nigerian Artists (SNA), Mallam Muhammad Sulaiman, described the fair as a celebration of collaboration between Nigerian and international artists.
“The presence of international artworks alongside those of Nigerian artists illustrates the NGA’s seamless engagement with the global art community,” he stated.
He also pledged continued support for legislative reforms that would reposition the NGA as a major contributor to national revenue.
More than 30 exhibitors are participating in the two-day fair, curated by acclaimed visual artist Mufu Onifade. With the theme “Intersection of Treasures”, the event honours Nigeria’s artistic wealth and cultural heritage.

The International Art Fair has significantly contributed to the growth of Nigeria’s non-oil revenue over the years. It underscores the remarkable progress within Nigeria’s visual arts sub-sector.
The National Gallery of Art (NGA) is known for its efforts in enhancing Nigeria’s cultural image on the global stage.
