Five Amotekun Officers injured in violent attack on Osun Command

No fewer than five operatives of the Amotekun Corps sustained injuries after a violent attack on the security outfit’s command in Osun State.
In a statement released on Monday, the corps’ spokesperson, Yusuf Idowu, confirmed that the incident took place over the weekend at the Amotekun Awo Command in Egbedore Local Government Area.
Idowu explained that trouble began after the Oniwoye of Iwoye invited the Amotekun personnel over an alleged attempt to carry out an illegal burial on the community’s ancestral land. However, by the time four of the operatives arrived at the location, the burial had already been completed.
While at the scene, a notorious thug, identified as Ismaila Aluko, who had reportedly been on the run for some time, suddenly appeared alongside a gang of armed men and launched a violent assault on the security team. The officers, in a bid to avoid escalating the situation, tactically withdrew to their command headquarters in Awo.
Shockingly, Idowu said the gang later regrouped and attacked the Amotekun office itself. The second attack reportedly happened in the presence of other security agencies, including officers from the Nigeria Police Force and an official of the Department of State Services (DSS), who were at the location to intervene.
During the assault, the attackers attempted to disarm the Amotekun personnel and inflicted injuries on them. One officer was seriously injured, while four others sustained minor wounds and were rushed to a medical facility for urgent care.
Describing the act as a direct threat to public safety and peace, the Osun Amotekun Corps vowed not to tolerate such lawlessness. Idowu assured that the corps is collaborating with other security agencies to ensure the arrest and prosecution of everyone involved in the incident, reaffirming their commitment to safeguarding lives, property, and maintaining peace in Osun communities.
