Four escape unhurt as Aircraft crashes at Owerri Airport
A light aircraft operated by Skypower Express has crashed near the approach area of Runway 17 at the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri, Imo State.
The aircraft, identified as a Cessna 172, was en route from Kaduna International Airport to Port Harcourt International Airport before the crew declared an emergency, prompting a diversion to Owerri.
The crash occurred during the aircraft’s approach to the runway, triggering an immediate response from airport emergency services.
Authorities confirmed that four people were on board the aircraft at the time of the incident. No fatalities were recorded, and all occupants reportedly survived the crash.
Emergency responders swiftly secured the area to prevent further hazards, while aviation authorities commenced preliminary assessments to determine the cause of the incident.
As of the time of filing this report, investigations are ongoing, with officials assuring the public that safety protocols were promptly activated to manage the situation.
