Gov Oborevwori reaffirms commitment to Udu, say no community will be left behind

The Delta State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, has dismissed claims that Udu Local Government Area is being neglected, reaffirming Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to fair development across all parts of the state.

During a recent inspection of the ongoing Bezi Road and drainage project connecting Aladja to Ogbe-Ijoh in Warri South West Local Government Area, Izeze described the state government’s presence in Udu as evidence of its inclusive development agenda. He explained that after discovering flaws in the initial drainage design, an additional 465 metres of drains were promptly approved to tackle water overflow and direct it towards a nearby natural canal.

While expressing concern over the pace of the work, the commissioner noted the contractor’s commitment to delivering the project before the peak of the August rains. He also addressed recent protests by Udu youths demanding more attention from the government, stating that their concerns were understandable in a democratic setting but insisted that Udu was not sidelined.

Highlighting other major projects in the area, Izeze mentioned the Opete Road project and the rehabilitation of the Orhuwhorun–Usiefrun Road, both of which he described as vital to the socio-economic growth of Udu. He reassured residents that Governor Oborevwori was leading the state with fairness, equity, and political unity, noting that Udu remains aligned with the current administration.

At Sokoh Estate Road in Uvwie Local Government Area, Izeze appealed to residents for patience while assuring them that the road, which has endured decades of failed interventions, would soon be completed. He explained that the road’s width had been increased from 7.3 metres to 10 metres with dual-side drainage connected to the Warri Stormwater Drainage Project. According to him, the redesigned road, when completed, would meet international standards and last for at least 20 years.

Izeze emphasized that Governor Oborevwori personally supervised the redesign of the project to ensure durability and effective drainage. He assured residents that though the process might seem slow, it was necessary to follow the right procedures to deliver a lasting solution.

Engr. Ifeanyi Ochuba, representing the contracting firm, confirmed steady progress on the site and pledged that the road would be delivered within the agreed deadline of December 2025.
