Guardiola announces Manchester City Exit after historic 10-Year reign
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has announced he will leave the club at the end of the season, bringing to a close a remarkable decade that transformed both the club and English football.
The Spaniard confirmed that Sunday’s clash against Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium will be his final game in charge of City, although he is expected to remain involved with the City Football Group as a global ambassador.
Reflecting on his decision, Guardiola said it was simply time for a new chapter.
“What a time we have had together. There is no reason, but deep inside, I know it’s my time,” he said.
During his 10-year tenure, Guardiola guided Manchester City to 20 major trophies, including six Premier League titles, three FA Cups, five League Cups, the UEFA Champions League, Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and three Community Shields.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest managers in football history, Guardiola arrived at City in 2016 after successful spells with FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
His influence extended far beyond trophies, with his possession-based style reshaping coaching philosophies across English football. Several top managers, including Mikel Arteta, Arne Slot and Xabi Alonso, have cited Guardiola as a major influence on their coaching careers.
Reports indicate former City assistant and ex-Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is the leading candidate to succeed Guardiola at the Etihad.
Guardiola’s departure comes as Manchester City continues to await the outcome of proceedings relating to more than 100 alleged breaches of Premier League financial regulations, a case that has overshadowed parts of the club’s recent success.
His exit marks the end of one of the most successful managerial eras in football history and closes a chapter that established Manchester City as a dominant force in both English and European football.
