Health Records Board trains tutors to improve Nigeria’s healthcare system
The Registrar of the Health Records Officers Registration Board of Nigeria, Babagana Mustapha, has stressed the importance of accurate health data in strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system.
He made the remarks during a two-day capacity-building workshop held in Abuja, which focused on the District Health Information System II (DHIS2) for tutors of Health Information Management (HIM) training institutions across the country.
The workshop, themed “Capacity Building Training on District Health Information System II (DHIS2) for HIM Tutors,” brought together educators to enhance their skills in digital health data management.
Mustapha described the training as timely and strategic, noting that in a data-driven healthcare environment, the ability to generate, manage, analyse, and utilise accurate health information is essential for informed decision-making and improved health outcomes.
He explained that DHIS2 has become a critical tool within Nigeria’s health information system, supporting data management at primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare levels.
The Registrar also reminded participants of their key role in shaping future Health Information Management professionals, emphasising the need for continuous training to keep pace with evolving digital systems.
According to him, the workshop reflects the Board’s commitment to professional development, improved training standards, alignment with national health priorities, and the advancement of digital transformation in the sector.
He encouraged participants to actively engage in the sessions, collaborate with facilitators, and apply the knowledge gained to enhance teaching methods and student competence.
Mustapha further commended the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, alongside partners and facilitators, for their support in making the programme successful.
He expressed confidence that the training would improve data quality, strengthen health system performance, and enhance service delivery nationwide.
