‘I’m not a womaniser, I’m a lover boy’ — 2Baba sets record straight
Nigerian music icon, Innocent Idibia, widely known as 2Baba, has pushed back against long-standing public perceptions about his personal life, insisting that he is not a womaniser but simply a man who loves deeply.
The award-winning singer made the clarification during an interview with Voice of Nigeria shared on Wednesday, where he spoke candidly about fame, fatherhood and the weight of public scrutiny.
Addressing what he described as the biggest misconception about him, 2Baba said:
“The biggest misconception about me is that I’m a womaniser. I like women; I’m just straightforward. But I’m a lover boy. I love hard.”
For decades, the African Queen crooner’s relationships and family life have attracted intense media attention. However, the music star says public narratives often fail to capture the emotional depth behind his choices.
On Fatherhood and Regret
2Baba, a father of eight, described his children as one of his greatest blessings — but admitted that balancing music stardom with parenting has been emotionally challenging.
“I have eight kids now. I feel blessed and happy, but the sadness comes from the fact that I haven’t gotten to spend the type of time I should have spent with them collectively. It does something to me sometimes,” he said.
Despite his demanding career, the singer expressed immense pride in his children, describing them as brilliant and inspiring.
“They’re amazing, brilliant people. I just wish I was there more. It touches me from all corners.”
His remarks offered a rare glimpse into the private reflections of a man whose public image has often overshadowed his personal vulnerabilities.
Defending His Wife
The music legend also addressed criticism directed at his wife, Natasha, particularly claims suggesting she exerts undue influence over his decisions.
According to him, such assumptions are largely unfounded and fuelled by social media speculation.
“Everybody has a say in everybody’s business now. Sometimes people say very nasty things.
“You grow thick skin, but sometimes it gets to you. Reality is reality — she’s a brilliant woman, a strong woman,” he said.
2Baba’s comments come amid persistent online conversations about celebrity marriages and the pressures they endure in the digital age.
The Shy Superstar
In another surprising revelation, the singer described himself as naturally shy and more reserved than many might expect.
“My profession doesn’t permit me to be shy, but I’m actually a very shy person,” he explained.
“Sometimes I just want to be alone and chill. Other times I want to hang out. I like nature; I have my moments.”
For an artiste who has spent more than two decades in the spotlight, selling out arenas and shaping the soundscape of African pop music, the admission paints a portrait of a reflective and deeply human figure navigating fame on his own terms.
