JUST-IN: Adamawa Assembly Speaker, 14 lawmakers resign from PDP

Fresh political developments have emerged in Adamawa State as the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Wesley Bathiya, alongside 14 other lawmakers, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Bathiya announced the mass resignation during plenary, confirming that fifteen PDP members of the House had formally severed ties with the party.

Although the lawmakers did not immediately disclose their next political platform, strong indications suggest they may be heading to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The development has intensified speculations that Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri may be preparing to defect from the PDP to the ruling APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Adamawa State House of Assembly has 25 members drawn from the PDP, APC and Labour Party. The defection of the Speaker and other lawmakers is expected to significantly alter the political balance in the Assembly.

Political observers say the mass resignation signals a major shift in Adamawa’s political landscape and may be part of broader political realignments currently taking shape in the state.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official confirmation from Governor Fintiri regarding his alleged defection plans.

More details are expected as the situation unfolds.
