The Nigeria Police Force has summoned Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi to Abuja as part of an ongoing investigation into a violent incident that marred this year’s Sallah festivities in Kano.

On March 30, 2025, a clash reportedly involving members of Sanusi’s entourage led to the death of a vigilante member and injuries to others. The Kano State Police Command subsequently arrested a 20-year-old suspect, Usman Sagiru, of Sharifai Quarters, in connection with the attack.

Authorities also launched an inquiry into the incident and invited Alhaji Wada Isyaku, the Shamakin Kano, for questioning.

According to an official correspondence dated April 4, 2025, and signed by the Commissioner of Police (Operations), CP Olajide Rufus Ibitoye, Sanusi is expected to appear at the Force Intelligence Department headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.

The invitation, the letter noted, was issued on the orders of the Inspector General of Police.

The letter reads:”I have the directives of the Inspector General of police, through the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Department (FID) to invite you for an investigative meeting with regards to an incident that occurred during the Sallah celebration within your domain.”In view of the above, you are hereby invited to Force Intelligence Department, opposite Police force headquarters Area 11, Abuja by 1000hrs of Tuesday 8th of April, 2025.”Your availability is highly sought for a purposeful investigation. Accept the warm regards of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, please.”

In the days leading up to the celebration, security agencies had issued directives restricting durbar displays, citing potential risks to public safety and order.

However, Sanusi went ahead with the traditional festivities, including the Durbar procession, which drew large crowds and significant media coverage. The celebration also featured a visit to the government house as part of the Hawan Nasarawa.
