Kebbi Governor approves appointment of Sanusi Mikailu as new Emir of Zuru
Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has approved the appointment of Sanusi Mikailu as the new Emir of Zuru.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Ahmed Idris, the governor explained that Mikailu emerged after a traditional selection exercise by Zuru kingmakers, where he secured seven out of nine votes.
The appointment letter was officially presented in Zuru by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Abubakar Dutsin Mari, who emphasized that the process was strictly based on merit.
Celebrations erupted in the town as residents welcomed the announcement, hailing the beginning of a new chapter in the emirate’s history.
“Three candidates contested, but he emerged with the highest votes. Whatever our people want is what we try to do. His victory shows that he is loved by his people, and we stand by their choice,” the Commissioner said.
He also thanked the governor for approving the decision and urged the new monarch to justify the confidence placed in him.
Sanusi Mikailu, now to be known as Emir Sanusi Mikailu Sami Gomo III, succeeds the late Emir Muhammadu Sani Sami Gomo II, who recently died in a London hospital after a brief illness.
