The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has provided an update on the ongoing return airlift of Nigerian pilgrims from Saudi Arabia, announcing a shift in the final flight schedule.

In a statement released on Monday, the commission revealed that while airlift operations have improved with more flight slots now available, the return of pilgrims may not conclude by June 28 as previously planned.

According to NAHCON, Nigerian carriers have, since June 22, secured up to seven flights daily in a 2-2-2-1 ratio. Despite this increase, challenges such as post-Hajj airspace congestion and flight cancellations have slowed the operation. The commission now projects that the final flights may likely be completed by Tuesday, July 2, 2025, barring any further disruptions.

Out of the total 41,668 Nigerian pilgrims transported to Saudi Arabia for this year’s Hajj, over 27,316 have so far returned home, excluding those who opted for regular flights due to personal emergencies.

Breaking down the remaining numbers, Max Air has 6,019 pilgrims left, operating with two wide-body aircraft capable of carrying 560 passengers each. UMZA Aviation Services has 4,850 pilgrims yet to be airlifted using two aircraft with combined capacities of 796. FlyNas still has 2,480 pilgrims waiting, with a daily carriage capacity of 819, while Air Peace has 1,635 pilgrims remaining and a 315-seat aircraft.

NAHCON reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that all pilgrims are returned to Nigeria safely and as swiftly as possible. The commission also thanked the pilgrims and their families for their patience and understanding during the extended operations.

The update was signed by Fatima Sanda Usara, Assistant Director, Information and Publication, on behalf of the NAHCON Chairman/CEO.
