Nasarawa State Government begins fertiliser distribution for wet season farming

The Nasarawa State Government has commenced the distribution of over 6,500 bags of free fertiliser to smallholder farmers across the state’s thirteen local government areas in a bid to bolster agricultural activities and increase food production.

Flagging off the distribution exercise at the Government House in Lafia, Governor Abdullahi Sule urged beneficiaries to make proper use of the fertiliser for farming purposes rather than selling it.

He explained that the fertiliser distribution for the 2025 wet farming season forms part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Initiative, which is designed to support small-scale farmers across the country and boost agricultural output.

Governor Sule noted that the initiative aligns with his administration’s broader objective of driving economic growth and job creation through agriculture. He highlighted the state’s large-scale rice farming project, which covers over 3,000 hectares, as a key example of the government’s commitment to transforming the sector.

The Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Nasarawa State, Hon. Safiyanu Isa Andaha, commended the gesture and assured the public that the fertiliser would be distributed fairly to the intended farmers.

Speaking on behalf of the farming community, the Chairman of the Farmers Association in Nasarawa State, Mr Isaac Kighu, thanked Governor Sule for the intervention and called for the provision of more tractors to enable modern and efficient farming.

Several beneficiaries also expressed appreciation to both the state and federal governments, pledging to utilise the fertiliser judiciously to improve their yields.
