Ondo Government reaffirms support for State Police as solution to rising insecurity
The Ondo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Justice Kayode Ajulo, has expressed strong support for the establishment of state police, insisting that it remains one of the most effective ways to tackle the growing insecurity across the country.
Speaking during a public forum on security reforms, Ajulo said the current centralized policing structure is overstretched and unable to adequately respond to emerging threats in local communities. He noted that crimes such as kidnapping, banditry, and armed robbery require swift responses that only locally controlled security agencies can provide.
According to him, empowering states to manage their own police formations will enhance intelligence gathering, improve crime prevention, and create a more accountable security framework tailored to local realities.
Ajulo emphasized that state police would complement, not compete with, federal security agencies, adding that a cooperative system between both levels is necessary for national peace and stability.
He called on the National Assembly and other key stakeholders to speed up the constitutional amendment process required to actualize state policing, stressing that Nigerians are yearning for practical solutions to current security challenges.
Justice Ajulo reaffirmed the Ondo State Government’s commitment to supporting any legal and institutional reforms needed to strengthen security within the state and across the nation.
