Osas Ighodaro recounts uncomfortable first on-screen kiss
Nollywood actress Osas Ighodaro has shared details of an unsettling experience during her first on-screen kiss in Nigeria, drawing attention to ongoing concerns about professionalism in the film industry.
Speaking on The Culture League podcast, Ighodaro disclosed that the actor involved used his tongue during the scene without prior discussion. She described the encounter as unexpected and uncomfortable, noting that in other film industries, such matters are usually guided by agreed boundaries.
The actress’s revelation has sparked renewed debate over industry practices in Nollywood, where issues of consent and on-set boundaries have often been overlooked. In contrast, international standards increasingly employ intimacy coordinators to ensure actors are protected and comfortable during such scenes.
While some within the Nigerian film industry view such incidents as commonplace, critics argue that the absence of formal guidelines leaves performers vulnerable to unprofessional behaviour.
Ighodaro’s account has therefore been seen as a reminder of the need for Nollywood to adopt clearer protocols in line with global best practices, ensuring respect and dignity for professionals across film productions.
