Police debunk viral Abuja terror attack video, arrest suspect
The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed as false a viral video circulating on social media alleging an ongoing terrorist attack in Abuja.
Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid, described the claims as “entirely false, misleading, and malicious,” stressing that no such incident occurred in the nation’s capital.
According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that the video was deliberately fabricated using misleading footage sourced online to create panic and undermine public confidence in the country’s security system.
The police further disclosed that one Pam Joseph has been arrested in connection with the creation and dissemination of the content. The arrest, authorities said, followed credible intelligence and digital forensic analysis linking the suspect to the video.
The Force warned that while citizens have the right to freedom of expression, such rights do not extend to spreading misinformation capable of threatening public peace and national security.
It also urged Nigerians to verify information before sharing, cautioning against engaging in actions that could incite fear or disorder.
The suspect remains in custody and is expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to monitoring digital platforms and taking decisive action against individuals spreading false or misleading information.
