Senate confirms Bernard Doro as Minister
The Senate on Thursday confirmed the nomination of Dr. Bernard Doro as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria after a brief screening that lasted less than 30 minutes.
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, was present during the screening and confirmation session.
Dr. Doro, who becomes the third ministerial nominee from Plateau State under the current administration, outlined his vision to promote an inclusive and effective humanitarian system across the country. He pledged to build a humanitarian ecosystem guided by impartiality, inclusiveness, and independence.
After answering a few questions, the senators expressed satisfaction with his qualifications and capacity to serve, prompting them to ask him to take a bow and leave.
President Bola Tinubu had earlier written to the Senate requesting Doro’s screening and confirmation, in line with Section 147 (2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). The letter was read during plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who referred the request to the Committee of the Whole for immediate consideration.
Doro’s nomination followed the appointment of Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in July. Yilwatda had previously served as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction before his elevation within the party.
