Senior Journalist Ambrose Sule Inusa passes away at 70

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, has announced with deep sorrow the passing of Elder Ambrose Sule Inusa, a respected veteran journalist and union stalwart.

Elder Sule, who would have turned 70 today, 5th May 2025, died suddenly on Sunday, 4th May, while being rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Gwarinpa, Abuja, following a brief illness.

His illustrious journalism career began at the Nigerian Observer Newspaper. He later served as Chief Press Secretary to the then Minister of Information in the Second Republic, Garba Wushishi. Elder Sule also held the position of Chairman, Press Centre Management Committee, NUJ FCT Council. Until his demise, he was the publisher of the Nigerian Environment Newspaper and Chief Executive Officer of FirstAll Online Media.

A native of Apana in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, Elder Sule is survived by his wife and five children.

Described by the union as a “professional, exemplary and hard-working journalist”, the NUJ FCT Council said it received the news of his death with “rude shock” and is yet to come to terms with the loss. The statement, signed by the Council Secretary, Comrade Jide Oyekunle, highlights Elder Sule’s dedication to journalism, his humility, and his unwavering support for colleagues.

“He was not just a professional colleague but a friend to many,” the statement read. “His humility, kindness and dedication will be remembered.”

The union also expressed particular grief that his death came just as the new executive council had concluded plans on a policy framework aimed at improving the wellbeing and healthcare of senior journalists and veterans in the profession.

NUJ FCT described the late journalist as a peace-builder and a man of integrity, saying: “Your unwavering commitment to ethical standards is a testament to the passion you had for the journalism profession.”

The NUJ FCT Council extended heartfelt condolences to Elder Sule’s family, friends, and all who were touched by his life, praying for the strength to bear the irreparable loss.

His passing marks the end of an era for many in the media landscape, who regarded him not only as a mentor but as a symbol of journalistic excellence.
