Super Eagles fully assembled in Uyo ahead of crucial World Cup Qualifier against Rwanda
The Super Eagles have stepped up preparations for their must-win 2026 World Cup qualifier against Rwanda, with all 23 invited players now in camp.
As of Wednesday evening, Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, Tolu Arokodare, Raphael Onyedika, and Chrisantus Uche had joined the team in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, completing the squad for the weekend clash.
The Nigerian side wasted no time getting to work, holding their first training session on Tuesday evening, which focused on tactical drills and set-piece routines. Training continued on Wednesday as head coach Eric Chelle fine-tuned his strategy ahead of the decisive fixture.
The three-time African champions will face Rwanda on Saturday in Uyo before flying to Bloemfontein, South Africa, for another tough clash against Bafana Bafana three days later.
Nigeria’s qualification hopes hang in the balance, with the team sitting fourth in Group C after collecting just seven points from six matches. South Africa currently lead with 10 points, while Benin Republic and Rwanda each have eight. However, South Africa could lose three points over the alleged fielding of an ineligible player, Teboho Mokoena, in a match against Lesotho.
The Super Eagles are seeking redemption after failing to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Another miss would mark the first time since their debut in 1994 that Nigeria would fail to qualify for two consecutive editions of the tournament.
