Tinubu appoints new management for federal universities
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved new appointments to the management and governing councils of several federal universities, including the appointment of Chisom Obih to the Governing Council of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State. Obih’s appointment follows the death of a serving council member.
The President also named Professor Ralph Akinfeleye, a distinguished communications scholar, to the Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State. Professor Akinfeleye is a former Head of the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Lagos and served as Chairman of the Centre of Excellence in Multimedia and Cinematography, as well as Unilag Radio 103.1 FM and Unilag Television.
In the same announcement, President Tinubu appointed Professor Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai as Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, Zamfara State. Other principal officers appointed to the institution include Mr Hamisu Yusuf Yelwa as Registrar, Mr Usman Nakazalle Sanusi as Bursar, and Dr Shehu Aminu Liman as Librarian.
A retired Colonel of the Nigerian Army, Professor Yakasai is currently the Provost of the College of Health Sciences at Bayero University, Kano. He also serves as Chairman of the Committee of Provosts of Colleges of Medicine in Nigeria and is a member of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State.
According to Presidential Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Professor Yakasai obtained his MBBS from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, before winning a European Economic Commission scholarship to undertake postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom. He subsequently earned membership and later a fellowship of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
