Tinubu mourns former CJN Tanko Muhammad
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, describing his passing as a great loss to the nation and the judiciary.
Justice Tanko Muhammad, who hailed from Bauchi State, died on Tuesday in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at the age of 71. He served as Chief Justice of Nigeria between 2019 and 2022.
In a statement, President Tinubu paid glowing tribute to the late jurist, describing him as an eminent legal mind, a disciplined administrator, and a committed public servant who dedicated the greater part of his life to the service of justice and the strengthening of Nigeria’s judiciary.
The President noted that Justice Tanko Muhammad’s long career on the Bench, which culminated in his elevation to the position of Chief Justice of Nigeria, was characterised by integrity, courage, and an unflinching commitment to the rule of law.
According to him, the late former CJN made invaluable contributions to the growth and development of Nigeria’s legal system, adding that his legacy would continue to endure, particularly among the many judges and lawyers he mentored over the years.
President Tinubu extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, the Supreme Court of Nigeria, members of the Bar and Bench, as well as the government and people of Bauchi State.
He prayed that Almighty Allah grants the departed jurist eternal rest and comforts all those mourning his passing.
