Tinubu orders full military action against threats to Nigeria’s unity
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given full authorization to the Nigerian military to decisively confront terrorists, insurgents, bandits, and separatist groups threatening the peace and unity of the nation.
This directive was announced by Vice President Kashim Shettima during the grand finale of the 2025 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) held at Murtala Square in Kaduna.
The President reaffirmed his government’s firm backing for the Armed Forces and all security agencies, assuring them of improved welfare, modern weaponry, and actionable intelligence to support their operations. He emphasized that terrorism, banditry, and separatism are grave threats that must be decisively defeated.
“To the officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army, I say this with absolute clarity: the time to rise is now. You have my full authorization and the trust of the Nigerian people to confront and defeat those who seek to undermine our nation,” Tinubu declared.
He paid tribute to fallen heroes and wounded personnel, praising their sacrifices in defence of Nigeria’s sovereignty, and also commended military families, especially the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA) and Nigerian Army Soldiers’ Wives Association (NASWA), for standing by their loved ones in service.
In his remarks, Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede assured Nigerians that the military, in synergy with the Navy, Air Force, and other security agencies, remains committed to neutralizing security threats and safeguarding the country. He stressed that the Nigerian Army’s transformation drive is centered on professionalism and troop welfare.
The 2025 NADCEL event featured military parades, tactical demonstrations, and exhibitions of modern military equipment, reaffirming the readiness and operational strength of the Nigerian Army. Dignitaries at the event included former Head of State General Yakubu Gowon, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, Minister of Defence Mohammed Badaru, and several military veterans and traditional rulers.
The President concluded by urging Nigerians to reject division and indifference, pledging that under his administration, the safety and unity of the country will remain a top priority.
