President Bola Tinubu has emphasized his administration’s determination to put Nigeria ahead in Africa’s development journey, with a strong focus on technology, food security, and inclusive growth.

Speaking to Nigerians in Brazil on Wednesday, Tinubu said Nigeria must learn from the success models of emerging economies like Brazil, stressing that the country has the talent, energy, and youth needed to transform its destiny.

“We must bring Nigeria to the forefront of Africa’s progress, driven by technology, food sovereignty, and the courage to change our destiny,” presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga quoted him as saying.

Tinubu described his visit to Brazil as a strategic effort to strengthen bilateral ties and draw inspiration from the country’s remarkable development path. He recalled that both nations once shared similar economic positions but noted that Brazil had advanced through technology and efficient food systems.

“Once upon a time, Nigeria and Brazil stood on the same level. Look at Brazil today, its technology, its food systems. We must ask ourselves: what do they have that we don’t? We have the brains, the energy, and the youth. We have everything we need. Now, we must act,” he said.

The President commended Nigerians in the diaspora, urging them to see themselves as stakeholders in building a new Nigeria rooted in innovation, culture, and responsibility. “You are the pride of our nation. Your diversity, your commitment — it reflects the Nigeria we are working to build. I salute you all,” he said.

Acknowledging the economic difficulties citizens are facing due to ongoing reforms, Tinubu likened them to “bitter medicine” that must be endured for long-term stability and prosperity.

“Yes, the reforms are tough — like bitter medicine. But once the fever is gone, you know the cure was worth it,” he stated.

He further disclosed that his administration is laying the foundation for global partnerships to unlock Nigeria’s potential in manufacturing, technology, and cultural exchange.

Tinubu also urged Nigerians at home and abroad to foster unity, peace, and passion to build a country everyone can be proud of. “If Wole Soyinka, at over 90, can still dream and act, then we have no excuse. The dream must be realised. The time is now,” he added.
