The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and his supporters in Rivers State have renewed their commitment to deliver overwhelming votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

Wike made the declaration on Tuesday while addressing supporters during his “Thank You Visit” to Abonnema, headquarters of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State, where he expressed appreciation to residents for their support during the 2023 elections.

Thanking the people for standing by him during what he described as a difficult political period, Wike said their backing for Tinubu in 2023 would not be taken for granted, stressing that important lessons had been learnt from past political decisions in the state.

“In life, you don’t expect everybody to appreciate what you have done for them. For me and my team, we don’t take your support for granted, we must come and thank you,” Wike said.

Reflecting on the last election cycle, the former Rivers State governor admitted that errors were made in 2023 but assured that such mistakes would not recur in 2027.

“What is important in life is that when you make a mistake, you come out and say it. The mistake we made in 2023 will not be repeated. As far as Rivers State is concerned, the door is shut. There is no other person we will support other than Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in 2027,” he declared.

Earlier, Chairman of the Rivers Elders Council, Chief Ferdinand Alabraba, commended Wike’s political decisions during the 2023 elections, describing them as bold moves that helped stabilise the state.

Alabraba described Wike as a key figure in contemporary Nigerian politics, citing his pragmatic leadership style and what he termed courageous decisions, including supporting the emergence of an Ijaw governor after decades.

He criticised the alleged failure of Governor Siminalayi Fubara to openly acknowledge Wike’s role in his emergence, describing it as an aberration and insisting that the Ijaw people were not known for ingratitude.

“You took two critical decisions. First, you sacrificed everything to enthrone a successor from the Ijaw ethnic nationality after 24 years. Second, you positioned Rivers State to support Bola Tinubu in 2023 while your party retained other seats. That singular decision is what has kept Rivers State afloat today,” Alabraba said.
