Polytechnic Workers issue 21-Day ultimatum to FG over unresolved demands
The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP) has given the Federal Government a fresh 21-day ultimatum to resolve all outstanding issues affecting its members or face a nationwide strike.
The ultimatum, which commenced on August 27, 2025, was issued in a communique released at the end of the union’s 77th General Executive Council Meeting held at the Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Danbatta, Kano State.
The workers are demanding the release of the new Scheme of Service, the constitution of the Renegotiation of the 2010 Agreement Committee, settlement of arrears including promotion arrears, 25/35% salary review arrears, wage award, and full implementation of the new minimum wage. They also called for the release of the 2023, 2024, and 2025 Needs Assessment Funds.
In the communique jointly signed by SSANIP President, Philip Ogunsipe, and National Secretary, Shehu Gaya, the union accused the Federal Government of insincerity and paying lip service to agreements reached in the past.
“Despite several efforts to ensure peaceful resolution of our demands, government has only paid lip service to the issues,” the statement noted, stressing that the association has run out of patience.
The union warned that failure to meet its demands within the stipulated period would leave it with no choice but to withdraw services across polytechnics nationwide.
