Police summon El-Rufai, Kaduna ADC leaders
The Kaduna State Police Command has summoned former Governor Nasir El-Rufai for questioning over allegations of criminal conspiracy, incitement of public disturbance, mischief, and causing grievous harm.
El-Rufai was invited alongside key members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state, including the party’s North-West Chairman, Ja’afaru Sani. The invitation letter, signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Criminal Investigation, Zubairu Abdullahi, requested their presence at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on September 8, 2025, to clarify complaints lodged against them.
Others listed in the letter include Bashir Saidu, Ubaidullah Mohammed (also known as Mikiya 30), Nasiru Maikano, Aminu Abita, and Ahmed Rufa’i Hussaini (also known as Mikiya).
“This Department is currently investigating the above-mentioned case involving the following members of your party. You are requested to come along with them to SCID to clarify allegations reported against them by the complainants on 8th September, 2025,” the letter read in part.
However, ADC members said they had not received the invitation officially and only learned about it via social media reports.
The summons comes after suspected thugs attacked the inauguration of a coalition of opposition party members under the ADC in Kaduna on Saturday. The attackers, armed with cutlasses, clubs, and stones, disrupted the event, injuring participants and vandalising properties.
The coalition includes members of an All Progressives Congress (APC) faction opposed to the state leadership, along with representatives from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Labour Party (LP), and ADC.
Despite the chaos, the event continued under heavy tension. The Kaduna Police Command later blamed El-Rufai for failing to notify security agencies about the gathering despite prior warnings.
Police spokesperson DSP Mansir Hassan said the former governor’s failure to seek clearance contributed to the unrest.
