Nuj Fct Election: Council Members Turn Out En-Masse For Manifesto Night
Members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council on Tuesday turned out en masse for Manifesto Night at the council secretariat in Utako-Abuja.
Comrade Henry Umoru, the chairman of the Credentials Committee, and two other committee members presided over the Manifesto Night, which is a component of the NUJ FCT Council election schedule. It gave candidates for the election a chance to introduce their plans and programmes to council members.
It would be recalled that the NUJ FCT Council election will be held on Wednesday (tomorrow), December 4, 2024, at the NUJ FCT Secretariat, Utako-Abuja.
Gloria Ohuagu of the Voice of Nigeria (VON) chapel, while moderating the exercise, ensured candidates spoke within the time allotted to them.
The excited members, who actively participated in listening to the four candidates, asked questions agitating their minds and got satisfactory answers.
The four candidates for tomorrow’s election who also presented their manifesto to members include Comrade Grace Ike, sole candidate for Chairman NUJ FCT Council; Comrade Yahaya Ndambabo for Vice Chairman; Comrade Jide Oyekunle for Secretary of Council (SOC); and Comrade Sandra Udeike for Treasurer.
Speaking separately, they all assured members of their commitment to lead the council with an avowed commitment to transparency, accountability, improved welfare, promoting professionalism, infrastructure development, promotion of sporting activities for unity and collaboration, provision of a health insurance scheme, establishment of a journalists’ village, inclusivity, training and retraining of journalists, establishment of a press centre management committee, and above all, regular financial reports, amongst others, and usher in an administration of One Voice New Era that would set the pace.
In a thunderous standing ovation, they were all asked to take a bow and go, a sign of endorsement ahead of tomorrow’s election.
