Nigeria’s challenges didn’t start Today, says SGF, Akume
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, has said that the difficulties facing Nigeria did not start with the present administration, stressing that President Bola Tinubu has introduced bold reforms to address them.
Speaking on Sunday at a special service to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day at the National Ecumenical Centre in Abuja, Akume reminded citizens that every Nigerian has a duty in building the country.
“Each Nigerian has a role in building the Nigeria that we deserve,” he said, while highlighting Tinubu’s reforms, including fuel subsidy removal, as necessary steps towards national progress.
“The President needs the support of every Nigerian. What President Bola Tinubu is doing today could have been done 39 years ago. But, I believe that at the end of the tunnel, there is light,” he added.
He also called for stronger cooperation among the three arms of government — the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary — to ensure stability and progress.
According to him, Independence Day is not only about celebrating Nigeria’s freedom from colonial rule but also about honouring the founding fathers who fought for the nation’s independence.
