Rivers Assembly moves to constitute investigative panel on Fubara, Odu
The Rivers State House of Assembly has resolved to forward a request to the State Chief Judge, Justice Simeon Chibuzor-Amadi, seeking the constitution of an investigative panel to probe the allegations of impeachment against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu.
The decision follows motions presented in the House confirming that official impeachment notices have been served on the Governor and his deputy, in compliance with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution.
The Assembly’s move marks the next formal step in the ongoing political crisis, signaling its intent to ensure that the process is legally supervised and transparent.
The constitution mandates that following the issuance of impeachment notices, a judicial panel must be constituted to investigate the allegations before any legislative action can be taken.
The House is expected to await the Chief Judge’s response on the panel’s formation, which will play a key role in determining the legitimacy and future course of the impeachment proceedings.
