Saudi Arabia fixes Friday for Eid-el-Fitr as Nigerian await Sultan’s announcement
Authorities in Saudi Arabia have announced that the 2026 Eid-el-Fitr celebration will hold on Friday, March 20, following the non-sighting of the crescent moon marking the end of Ramadan.
The announcement was conveyed via the official social media platforms of Haramin Sharifain on Wednesday, confirming that the Shawwal moon was not sighted across the Kingdom.
“The crescent moon has NOT been sighted in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, EidAlFitr will be celebrated on Friday, 20th March 2026,” the statement read.
The update further urged Muslims to make the most of the final moments of Ramadan through acts of worship, prayers, and devotion, while praying for acceptance of their fasting and good deeds.
Meanwhile, in Nigeria, Muslims are awaiting an official pronouncement from the Sultanate Council of Sokoto, led by the Sultan of Sokoto, which traditionally confirms the sighting of the moon and declares the commencement of Eid celebrations in the country.
