NUJ FCT honours DG, Grace Ike campaign with Excellence in Legislative Reporting Award

Mr. Philip Nyam, the Director General of the One Vision, New Era Campaign Organization, the movement that successfully galvanized support and delivered the historic election of NUJ FCT’s first female chairman, Comrade Grace Ike has been honoured with the Award of Excellence in Legislative Reporting by the NUJ FCT Council.

The award was conferred on Nyam, who is also the National Assembly Correspondent for New Telegraph Newspapers, at the 2026 NUJ FCT Press Week Lecture held at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.

A former Chairman of the House of Representatives Press Corps and FCT Correspondents’ Chapel, he was recognized for his incisive, dispassionate and exclusive reportage of the Parliament.

The NUJ FCT Council said the award was in recognition of Nyam’s depth, accuracy, and commitment to making legislative processes understandable to the public.

Popularly known as “Prof,” he is more than a reporter. He is an experienced editor and media manager who has mentored many journalists and remains a key power broker in NUJ FCT.

He has built a reputation for incisive, exclusive reportage that demystifies parliament for everyday Nigerians.

In presenting the award, the NUJ FCT Council, Chairman, Comrade Grace Ike, noted that Nyam’s work has set a benchmark for depth, accuracy, and courage in legislative reporting.

“He doesn’t just report what happens in the chamber. He explains why it matters, who it affects, and what comes next,” she stated.

Comrade Ike described his Director General “As a strategist and bridge-builder, a man whose influence runs deep in the union”.

Receiving the award, Nyam dedicated it to the “One Voice, New Era” Campaign Organization and journalists committed to holding the society, particularly the parliament accountable, noting: “Legislative reporting is about understanding, not just access. If we get it right, democracy works better.”

Continuing, Mr. Nyam said “I thank God for giving us good health, keeping us safe and blessing us with the desired strength to carry out our reportorial duties”.

He commended the NUJ FCT Council Chairman, Comrade Grace Ike for her uncommon leadership, especially in rejuvenating the union, uniting members and ushering in unprecedented development.

“I want to commend the Chairman of NUJ FCT Council,Comrade Grace Ike and her team for recognizing and honouring me with this award. I’m excited and I wish to acknowledge the excellent job she doing. It is unprecedented in the history of the union in the FCT and I’m proud to have led the campaign for her election.

“I must say Comrade Grace is a pacesetter, whose concern for the welfare of journalists is unequalled. I call on all journalists in the FCT Council to continue to support her “One Voice and New Era” administration to take the union to enviable heights”.
