Wike mocks Fubara: ‘You breached impeachment agreement

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, on Monday addressed the ongoing political developments in Rivers State, including Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s reported withdrawal from the 2027 governorship race and emerging realignments within the political structure of the state.

Wike, speaking during an inspection tour of infrastructure projects in Abuja, referenced a political understanding allegedly facilitated by President Bola Tinubu, under which impeachment threats against Fubara were dropped in exchange for the governor stepping down from pursuing a second-term bid.

According to him, the agreement was undermined when Fubara initially purchased nomination forms, describing the move as a breach of trust and contrary to earlier political understandings.

“In the first place, he ought not to have collected the form because the agreement was reached that the impeachment should be dropped, while he should also not talk about a second tenure,” Wike said.

He also threw his support behind House of Representatives member Kingsley Chinda, describing him as a credible and experienced political figure capable of leadership.

“A good product markets itself… Kingsley Chinda is the material,” he added, while suggesting that Chinda’s political profile and legislative experience positioned him strongly within the evolving political arrangement.

Wike further spoke about his satisfaction with ongoing infrastructure projects in the FCT, including road networks and the Renewed Hope City project in Kassara, as well as other major developments along the Dei Dei, Kuje, Gwagwalada, and City Gate corridors.

He commended contractors handling the projects, particularly Julius Berger, and praised the City Gate project, which he described as an initiative linked to the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, noting that it was nearing completion and on schedule for delivery.
