Pope Francis emerges from Hospital, Blessing an Adoring Crowd

Pope Francis has made his first public appearance since being hospitalised, offering a brief yet poignant greeting from a balcony at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital. The pontiff, who had been receiving treatment since 14 February, emerged to address a crowd of nearly three thousand gathered in the hospital square.
With a measured voice, the pontiff expressed his gratitude by saying, “Thank you to everyone!” Although his planned address was curtailed by the lingering effects of his respiratory treatment, his presence conveyed a powerful message of hope and reassurance. Standing with his hands resting on his knees, the Pope raised them in a gesture of blessing, while smiling warmly and acknowledging the enthusiastic cheers and shouts of “Francesco, Francesco!” from below.
During his brief moment on the balcony, Pope Francis took note of an Italian woman holding a bouquet of yellow flowers – a symbolic tribute to the occasion and responded with a grateful wave. Following this heartening interaction, he left the balcony and made his way towards the hospital’s entrance, departing in his familiar white Fiat 500L amid a final round of greetings and applause.
The pontiff’s next stop was the Basilica of Saint Mary Major, where he met Cardinal Rolandas Makrickas, the Coadjutor Archpriest of the Papal Basilica. In a further display of gratitude, he presented flowers to be laid before the icon of Mary Salus Populi Romani, marking his thanks for the care and protection afforded during his stay.
