VP Shettima jets off to Senegal for 65th Independence Day Celebrations

Vice President Kashim Shettima has left Abuja for Dakar, Senegal, to represent President Bola Tinubu at Senegal’s 65th Independence Day Anniversary celebrations.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Mr. Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice-President, confirmed the trip. Senegal marks its Independence Day on April 4 each year, celebrating its freedom from French colonial rule in 1960. The occasion is typically observed with national pride, including parades, ceremonies, and cultural events.
This year’s celebrations will take place at the Place de la Nation in Dakar, where President Bassirou Faye will host Vice President Shettima and other distinguished guests from across Africa and beyond. Nkwocha noted that Shettima’s attendance is a gesture of goodwill in response to an invitation extended by President Faye, reflecting the strong bilateral relationship between the two nations.
Shettima is expected to return to Nigeria on Friday after the one-day event.
