Anambra APC Governorship Aspirant Paul Chukwuma resigns from Party Hours to Primary

In a surprising turn of events, frontline governorship aspirant Sir Paul Chukwuma has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) just hours before the party’s primary election in Anambra State.
Chukwuma’s resignation was formally conveyed in a letter addressed to the chairman of Unueri Ward 2 in Anambra East Local Government Area. In the letter, he explained that his decision was motivated by his desire to create a broader political movement that aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“I write to formally notify you of my resignation as a card-carrying member of the All Progressives Congress (APC),” he stated.
“My decision finds expression in my quest to connect Anambra State to national politics by building a broader and all-encompassing political movement within the state in support of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.”
He expressed appreciation for the leadership of the party at the ward level, assuring them of his commitment to progressive ideals and the development of Anambra State.
Though the letter did not directly cite the cause of his withdrawal from the primary, sources within the party believe his exit is connected to allegations of manipulation in the build-up to the primary. Reports suggest that the APC leadership may have tilted the process in favour of a preferred candidate, prompting Chukwuma’s sudden departure.
Chukwuma, a former APC national auditor and South East zonal youth leader, has long been regarded as a key figure and financier of the party in Anambra. His resignation has raised concerns among party insiders, many of whom fear that a wave of defections from his loyal supporters could further destabilize the APC’s position ahead of the November 8 governorship election.
Observers say the development may deal a significant blow to the party’s efforts to gain traction in the state.
