Education Minister applauds Tinubu for renaming UNIMAID after Buhari
The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has commended President Bola Tinubu for renaming the University of Maiduguri in Borno State after the late President Muhammadu Buhari, describing it as a fitting tribute to his legacy.
The commendation was issued on Friday in a statement by Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press at the Federal Ministry of Education.
Dr. Alausa praised the President’s gesture, stating, “The Ministry of Education is deeply honoured that the sector has been chosen as the channel through which the late President’s legacy will be permanently enshrined.”
He noted that the decision not only reflected deep empathy and respect but also affirmed Tinubu’s belief in education as a foundation for national development.
“His commitment to human capital development is unwavering and consistent with the path of national renewal that Buhari championed,” the minister added.
According to Alausa, the symbolic act of renaming the institution to Muhammadu Buhari University of Maiduguri underscores the administration’s emphasis on education as a pillar for sustainable growth and national unity.
He further pledged the Ministry’s continued dedication to the values of service, integrity, and excellence, which he said both Buhari and Tinubu personify.
President Tinubu made the announcement during a special session of the expanded Federal Executive Council (FEC), held to honour the legacy of the late President.
The session was attended by top political figures including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House Tajudeen Abbas, governors, ministers, and other national leaders who offered heartfelt tributes.
