Troops eliminate Boko Haram fighters, foil bomb plot in Borno
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have killed several Boko Haram fighters during fresh offensives in Konduga, Bama, and Gwoza Local Government Areas of Borno State, North East Nigeria.
The operations, led under the command of Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, also prevented a bomb attack on a critical bridge between Marte and Dikwa.
The latest action follows a recent successful raid in Bitta, Gwoza LGA, where top Boko Haram commander Ibn Khalid and 17 other insurgents were killed, with weapons and logistics seized.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by Captain Reuben Kovangiya, Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, the troops—backed by the Air Component of OPHK—conducted sustained ambushes and patrols, eliminating nine more terrorists. Recovered items include AK-47 rifles and PKT machine guns.
Kovangiya also revealed that soldiers foiled an attempt by the terrorists to plant heavy Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) on a bridge linking Marte and Dikwa. Two large IEDs and other bomb-making materials were seized after a brief exchange of gunfire.
He reiterated that the military is determined to deny terrorists any freedom of movement or operational base in the region.
The army urged the public to continue supporting security forces with credible information to aid in the ongoing counterterrorism efforts.
