ADC faction in Adamawa suspends Atiku, Babachir Lawal

A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State has announced the suspension of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.

The suspension was disclosed on Monday by the chairman of the faction in the state, Raji Sulaiman Zumo.

Also suspended by the same faction is former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal.

The latest development comes amid an internal leadership tussle within the ADC, with another faction led by Nafiu Bala Gombe laying claim to the position of national chairman of the party.

The crisis reportedly influenced the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw recognition of the party leadership under former Senate President, David Mark.

The suspensions are expected to deepen the ongoing internal dispute within the opposition party as political realignments ahead of the 2027 general election continue to unfold.
