ADC fixes May 12 for inauguration of newly elected state executives
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has fixed May 12, 2026, for the inauguration of its newly elected state executives, as the faction led by former Senate President David Mark moves to strengthen its grip on the party despite lingering internal disputes.
The decision signals a fresh push by the Mark-led leadership to formalise control of party structures nationwide, even as legal battles, rival claims and parallel congresses continue to generate tension in some states.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, on behalf of the leadership.
According to the statement, the party commended members across the federation for the successful conduct of the state congresses.
> “African Democratic Congress, ADC, congratulates all newly elected state executives and state chairmen across the federation on the successful and peaceful conduct of their congresses.
> These elections, carried out in line with the provisions of the law and the party’s constitution, reflect the ADC’s enduring commitment to internal democracy, transparency and the rule of law.”
The party also praised stakeholders for what it described as their maturity, discipline and commitment during the exercise.
Inauguration to Proceed as Scheduled
ADC said the swearing-in of the newly elected officials would hold on May 12, unless a new date is later communicated by the National Working Committee (NWC).
> “The party is pleased to announce that the formal inauguration of the newly elected State Executives is scheduled to take place on May 12, 2026, or on a later date to be duly communicated by the National Working Committee.”
The leadership urged the incoming officials to remain committed to the ideals of the party and work towards building a stronger political alternative for Nigerians.
Crisis Still Lingers
The development comes amid an escalating leadership tussle within the party, with reports of court cases, suspensions and parallel congresses in several states.
These disputes have raised concerns over the credibility and uniformity of the congress process across the country.
However, the Mark-led leadership has maintained that all congresses conducted under its supervision were lawful and valid.
Focus on Future Elections
Political observers say the planned inauguration is part of broader efforts to stabilise the party’s internal structure and prepare for future electoral contests, especially as opposition realignments continue ahead of the 2027 general elections.
