Ademola Lookman joins Atletico Madrid from Atalanta on Four-Year deal
Nigeria international Ademola Lookman has completed a high-profile transfer from Atalanta to Atletico Madrid, with the Spanish giants reportedly paying around €40 million ($47.5 million) for the versatile winger.
The 28-year-old forward signed a contract running until 30 June 2030, providing Atletico coach Diego Simeone with a fresh attacking option following the departures of Giacomo Raspadori to Atalanta and Conor Gallagher to Tottenham.
Lookman, who impressed in Europe by scoring a hat-trick in Atalanta’s 2024 Europa League triumph over Bayer Leverkusen, has netted three goals in 19 appearances across all competitions this season.
Born in London, Lookman began his professional career at Charlton Athletic, later moving to Everton before spells at RB Leipzig, Fulham, Leicester City, and finally Atalanta in 2022. Known for his pace, dribbling, and versatility, the Nigerian international is expected to strengthen Atletico’s frontline alongside striker Julian Alvarez, who has struggled to score in recent La Liga matches.
Lookman’s arrival signals Atletico’s intent to compete more aggressively in Spain’s top flight and in European competitions.
