BREAKING: Ex-VP Atiku officially joins ADC
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has officially joined the African Democratic Congress, ADC, creating a major shift in Nigeria’s political scene ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He made the announcement on Monday through a post on X, where he shared photos of himself receiving his ADC membership card along with a customised “Waziri 01” jersey.
The registration ceremony took place in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, and drew a large crowd of supporters, party leaders and community figures. In the pictures, Atiku is seen raising his membership form as cheering supporters recorded the moment with their phones.
“It’s official. – AA,” he wrote, confirming earlier speculation about his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, where he had been a key figure for many years.
His move comes after reports suggested he would finalise his ADC membership during his birthday visit to Adamawa, which also featured community outreach events.
Atiku left the PDP earlier in 2025 and is expected to work on building a strong opposition force ahead of the 2027 elections, positioning himself against the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
