BREAKING: Former President Muhammadu Buhari is dead
Nigeria has been thrown into mourning following the passing of its former president, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR.
The sad news was confirmed this afternoon by his former aide, Bashir Ahmad, through a message shared on his official X handle.
In the announcement, Bashir wrote: “The family of the former president has announced the passing on of the former president, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, this afternoon in a clinic in London. May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus. Amin.”
Buhari, who led Nigeria as a military ruler between 1983 and 1985 before returning as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023, was known for his firm stance on anti-corruption and efforts aimed at stabilising the nation’s economy during his tenure.
Details regarding his burial arrangements are expected to be made public by the family, in line with Islamic customs.
