Breaking: Isreal, Hamas strike Ceasefire pact

Israel and Hamas have reached an agreement to temporarily halt hostilities in Gaza and proceed with a prisoner exchange, as confirmed by Qatar’s Prime Minister.
The ceasefire is scheduled to commence on Sunday. Under the initial phase of the agreement, Hamas is to release 33 hostages, while Israel will free hundreds of Palestinian prisoners from its detention facilities.
US President Joe Biden announced the accord and suggested that discussions may extend beyond this initial truce, expressing hopes of working towards “a permanent end to the conflict.”
The release of hostages represents the first step in the process. Talks for the second phase, aimed at achieving a comprehensive resolution to the crisis, are expected to follow after the 16-day ceasefire period.
This development is regarded as a pivotal moment in the ongoing conflict, raising hopes for progress towards enduring peace.
In a related context, President Biden highlighted the collaborative efforts between his administration and President-elect Donald Trump’s incoming team in securing the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.
Speaking on Wednesday, Biden explained that his administration had negotiated the agreement, but much of its implementation would fall under Trump’s administration.
“This agreement was shaped during my tenure, but its execution will largely be overseen by the next administration,” Biden stated, acknowledging the contributions of Trump’s transition team.
“In these recent days, we have worked together as one team,” he added. “The Middle East is experiencing significant challenges, but as I prepare to leave office, our alliances remain strong, our adversaries are weakened, and there are tangible opportunities for a brighter future.”
According to CNN, Brett McGurk, Biden’s chief Middle East envoy, collaborated closely with Steve Witkoff, Trump’s designated regional envoy, during the final stages of the negotiations. Officials from Biden’s administration highlighted Witkoff’s critical role in bringing the agreement to fruition.
